Youth Drum Camp-4 class pass

Youth Saturday Drum Camp | 4-Class Pass

Four Saturdays to learn, practice, and grow.

Saturdays | 11:00 AM–12:00 PM
September 12–October 31, 2026
Empowerment Center | Portsmouth, VA

Your $55 investment includes four Youth Saturday Drum Camp sessions.

And we've made it flexible. Your pass can be used for any four Saturdays during the 8-week season. There is no need to choose all four dates in advance.

Led by Djembe Fola Kam, youth learn traditional West African rhythms while strengthening technique, timing, listening, coordination, and the ability to play confidently with an ensemble.

No previous drumming experience is required.

What They'll Build

Across their four classes, youth will have opportunities to develop:

• Traditional West African rhythms
• Djembe technique and sound
• Timing and rhythmic confidence
• Listening and concentration
• Call-and-response skills
• Coordination and memory
• Ensemble playing
• Cultural knowledge and connection

Each class gives them another opportunity to practice what they've learned and build from there.

From the Circle to the Stage

Youth who choose to perform will have the opportunity to prepare for a culminating performance during the Kwanzaa season.

Performance is completely optional.
