Your $15 investment includes one Youth Saturday Drum Camp session.
Saturday Drum Camp gives young people an opportunity to learn traditional West African drumming in an active, engaging environment where they aren't simply watching—they're part of the rhythm.
Led by Djembe Fola Kam, participants learn through playing, listening, repetition, call-and-response, and working together as an ensemble.
No previous drumming experience is required.
More Than Learning a Rhythm
Through drumming, youth have opportunities to develop:
- Djembe technique and sound
- Rhythm and timing
- Listening and concentration
- Coordination
- Memory and pattern recognition
- Confidence
- Call-and-response skills
- Ensemble awareness
- Cultural knowledge and connection
- The experience of creating music with others
From the Circle to the Stage
Youth who continue throughout the fall will also have the option to prepare for a culminating performance during the Kwanzaa season.
Performance is not required. Youth are welcome to participate simply to learn, drum, and enjoy being part of the experience.
